Description

The maps on this page represent the stars from Piazzi's Star catalog described on the previous page.

Piazzi's stars are represented by blue disks and labeled by their number within the right ascension slice, which can be inferred from the coordinates at the edge of the maps.

All the stars from the Hipparcos catalog up to magnitude 12.0 are represented by + crosses, at their positions reduced to the 1800 epoch and equinox. The cross is black for Hipparcos stars associated with a Piazzi star, gray otherwise. Many Piazzi stars have no match in the Hipparcos catalog, in which case the corresponding star from the SAO catalog is drawn as a 3-branch asterisk. In two cases only, no match could be found in these catalogs.

Maps

The nineteen maps below cover the celestial sphere except the southern cap. The southernmost declination reached by Piazzi's catalog is -46°20'53.70", for star XVII.125.

Due to the density in some areas, some stars could not be labeled. This happens in the Praesepe cluster, the Pleiades, and NGC 6231 close to ζ Sco.
